The purpose of the Blessed Sacrament Gospel of Life committee is to assist our Pastor in propagating Jesus’s gift of and call to respect life. We seek to assist the Pastor in cultivating in our parishioners the understanding of Christ’s teaching as handed on to us by the Church on moral theology and life related issues. We seek to provoke inquiry into the call of Pope John Paul II to understand the “Theology of the Body” as we interact with one another and with the Eucharist.
We seek to initiate prayer for life, and in support of life. We also seek to help our pastor debunk false teaching on issues such as abortion, euthanasia, contraception, chastity, and celibacy. We hope to instill in our parishioners the desire to always choose the “Culture of Life” over the “Culture of Death”.
The Gospel of Life committee sponsors an essay contest for sixth through eighth graders each spring. The guidelines ask each applicant to write on a topic relating to the "Culture of Life" and the winners receive cash prizes. In addition, the committee donates to a fund that provides scholarships for eighth-grade students to attend the National March for Life in Washington, DC.
