Chorale – A group of 30+ members from late high school -?. We meet every Wednesday evening from 7:30- 9:00 in the choir room of the church. Each week, there is a sectional rehearsal from 7:00-7:30 PM for the different sections of the choir. We sing at the 4:30 Mass on the first Saturday of the month and the second, third and fourth Sundays at 10:30. We rehearse a ½- hour before the Mass in the choir room.
Jubilate - A group of auditioned 4-8th graders. After completion of the Chorister program, interested students have an individual audition. The Jubilate choir requires a bit more dedication and commitment. They sing within the parish community and in the greater Springfield area for various celebrations (i.e., last year they sang for Missions Mass at the Cathedral, Christmas entertainment for the Curia, 4:30 Mass for Christmas Eve, the Oratorio for the Advent Concert and the Memorial Mass at Calvary Cemetery). They sing the 8:30 Mass at Blessed Sacrament on the fourth Sunday of the month and the 10:30 Mass on the first Sunday of the month. They also sing all of the School Masses and every Tuesday/Friday, based on their grade level. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 PM in the choir room of the church. There are currently 30 choir members.
Choristers - A group of 3rd-5th graders who sing together every Wednesday in the choir room from 3:00-4:15 PM. Again, this year there are 30+ children. They learn musical skills needed to read music and sing in tune. They learn harmony and solfeggio, and every third Saturday they sing for Mass. They also sing each Tuesday for School Masses. All are welcome to participate in this special choir.
Orchestra - Many students play instruments at Blessed Sacrament. From time to time, we have a special rehearsal to learn Mass Parts and performance skills for playing in an ensemble. Occasionally, we invite an instrumental musician into the rehearsal from the Symphony/university to better equip us. The more advanced students play at weekend Mass. Those who are still developing their sight reading skills should wait until they can play independently before showing up at Mass. Call for an appointment if you would like to play at Mass. I am happy to find a time to work with the younger groups as their desire to play at Mass grows. I prefer the groups to contain, violin, viola, cello, flutes, oboes, clarinet, trumpet and trombone. If you play a guitar, piano or saxophone, call me and we will find a place for you. It would be great to have some adult instrumentalists, too.
PSR Choir - We meet in the church from 6:15-6:30 PM on Wednesday evenings to prepare for Mass once a month. All interested in this special ministry, please join us.
High School Group - This choir sings/plays twice a month and includes students in the 9-12th grades. These musicians lead the music at the 4:30 Mass on the second Saturday of the month which is a contemporary music Mass, and the 8:30 Mass on the third Sunday of the month. We practice 1 hour before the Saturday Mass and at 7:45 AM on the Sunday we sing at 8:30.
